[00:00:05] Pam Uzzell: Do you believe art can change the world? So do I! On this show, we meet artists whose work is doing just that. Welcome to Art Heals All Wounds. I'm your host, Pam Uzzell.
[00:00:53] A while back, many years ago at this point. I was in the audience of a motivational talk, and the speaker said, Remember the old African proverb, If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together. Before I wrote this episode, I did some Googling about the origins of this proverb, and it seems unclear if it is an African proverb, and if so, from which country.
[00:01:26] But it seems likely that somewhere in Africa there is a version of this proverb. Because, there are many proverbs with this same idea in cultures all over the world. I'm thinking about what it means to go together. With art and creativity.
[00:01:45] Sometimes it's through collaboration, but there are so many more ways than that. What about the exchange between people, how we connect to one another? What about exchanges between cultures? I've been thinking about how connection changes us,
[00:02:03] and if we're open to it, how connection asks us to grow.
[00:02:08] If you listened to last season, you know it was around the theme of belonging. I started the season by sharing some thoughts about being adopted and feeling like I never quite fit in with my family. And that feeling of not fitting in carried over into other spaces, too. Now, I'm thinking, well, is that it?
[00:02:29] Is that the end of my story? And I realized that one of the outcomes of going together is that it can change stories. If you start making connections, then you've introduced the possibility of change and surprise for your story. This season, season six, is all about connection. I'm inviting guests who've inspired me with their stories of connection to be on the show.
[00:02:57] And I'm hoping that you'll feel a connection with those stories as well. Being very real here. This podcast has been hard to keep going at the pace of releasing an episode every week. So, for the sake of my physical and mental health, I'm going to be releasing episodes with scheduled guests every other week instead of every week.
[00:03:50] But, I'm still hoping that you'll send in voicemails for me to share on the show. On the weeks between the longer episodes with a guest, I'll share a voicemail if I have one. Last season, the voicemail episodes were some of my favorites. I'm hoping that, if you haven't yet, you'll leave a voicemail for the show, sharing whatever role art or creativity has played in your life.
[00:04:14] All you have to do is go to my website, arthealsallwoundspodcast. com, and you'll see a big thing saying, leave a message for Pam at Art Heals All Wounds and a purple button to click to start recording. You can do this on your phone, your tablet, or your laptop. Please keep the voicemails coming in. I love what's been shared so far.
[00:04:37] If this show is valuable to you and you feel able to support it. There's also a link on my website called Buy Me a Coffee. It's a place where you can donate to the show. Every little bit helps me make this podcast. A really easy way to support Art Heals All Wounds is to follow the show on your favorite listening app.
